Geo-fencing uses the GPS signal on a worker's phone to determine their location. This location can be used to determine if they are eligible to punch in or out of events. This is an easy way to prohibit people from punching in or out if they aren't on event site.
Geo-fencing is different than recording the location of punches. If you'd just like to record a location of punches, that is available through Configurator > Time Tracking > Get Location
To enable geo-fencing
- Navigate to Configurator
- Click on Time Tracking
- Scroll to Geo-fencing, click the button to enable it
- Directly under that button, is a slider to indicate the distance of the geo-fence.
- For example, if you set this to 500 feet, workers will only be able to punch in or out if they are within 500 feet of the address listed on the event
Notes on accuracy
Some devices (very old or entry level phones) have trouble accurately determining their location. We recommend using a geo-fence of at least 500 feet to accomodate these devices.
Selectively disabling geo-fencing
Some venues, such as universities or stadiums, list an address that is far away from any physical meeting point. You may wish to disable geo-fencing for just these specific events, but not account-wide or for all other events.
To do this, from within the edit page for any event, click on Options. Then deselect Geofencing Enabled.
